1947 born in railway station house Port of Menteith Stirlingshire first child of James
and Helen Grant, originally of Gargunnock Stirlingshire
1950 family moves to station house Balgowan Perthshire where father becomes
stationmaster and mother is level crossing gatekeeper
1952 begins school at Madderty primary in Perthshire
1954 family moves to station house Leslie Fife
1957 brother Alistair born March, family moves to Muirkirk Ayrshire
1961 family moves to to Elderslie Renfrewshire, attends Wallace school
1962 joins A F Stoddard as junior carpet designer
1964 day release studies Glasgow school of art for 3 years
1976 records album '90768' autobiographical songs on childhood theme
1979 records album 'Fragments of the World' song collage
1980 records album 'Plimsoll Liner' songs based on imaginary cruise
1989 moves to Ailsa Cottage Kilbarchan
1990 marriage to Myra Skinner
1993 joins Paisley Art Institute
