welcome

My subject matter is essentially Scottish, places that have special meaning to me, places where the history of people and their landscape are closely bound together. my work attempts a timeless quality, while representing the spirit of a place. I am often drawn to magical times of day or season, and to memories of Scottish tradition and ritual.
Diverse influences include Scottish painting before the 'colourists', Pringle, Guthrie, Cameron and Walton, and small scale work of Seurat, Vuillard, Pinkham-Ryder, Whistler and Turner, Photography is also important to me as both source and influence, notably amateur and early primitive images.
Recent work is in media of - acrylic, oil, conte, pastel and photography on supports of wood panel or paper, using the natural grain and texture of these materials as integral elements of the final work.
